I have just started a new colour study exercise. It's going to be a long, drawn out one and this is just the beginning. It always starts with lots of planning - working out ratios, fractions (never my strong point), quantity surveying (do I have enough cloth, soda ash, dye ...), etc, etc. I envy those who can just dive in and start but I always feel I have to figure everything out first. That's just how my brain works.
The Plan is to use a system based on a method for dyeing a colour wheel, with lots of over-dyeing based on complementaries, to generate neutrals and semi-neutrals. And this time I am vat-dyeing - which will avoid the problems I've had trying to translate colour studies done using thickened dye into the bucket. So it's going to be worth it ... but there is a daunting amount of work to do to get there. I've just finished the first round ... of fifteen. Possibly this is slightly insane ... Oh, and this is stage one! Stage two will require a different system to widen the value range. Yeah, definitely insane ...
